Heartland Payment Systems Uncovers Security Breach In Its Processing System
No merchant information or cardholder Social Security numbers compromised.
Heartland Payment Systems, of Princeton New Jersey, is the victim of a security breach. The breach discovered January 20, 2009, exposes 100 million credit card transactions. Heartland Payment Systems notified Federal Law Enforcement. The financial security of our members is our #1 priority. Alabama Central Credit Union will reissue any compromised cards. Tips for keeping your information secure: Always pay close attention to billing statements. Immediately notify ACCU of any billing discrepancies. Use secure payment website (i.e. Paypal). Never give your information to unknown parties.

Notify ACCU of Phishing Emails
Members can now notify Alabama Central Credit Union if they have received an email they believe to be an attempt at Phishing. Just forward the suspicious email to phishing@alabamacentral.org.
Phishing emails pretend to be from legitimate sources. They often require a person to click on a link. The link leads the unsuspecting victim to a webpage that looks like a real financial institutions website, although it is actually a fraudulent website. The victim is then required to provide personal and identifying information, thus compromising their financial security. Many phishing emails make statements that seem urgent as a method of getting the victim to act quickly. They will, for example, state that an account has been frozen, compromised, or will be closed in the hopes the victim will be scared enough to act without hesitation. Do not be fooled by these criminal attempts to obtain your information. The best policy is to not provide your personal information to anybody, unless you are absolutely sure that it is for a legitimate reason.
